Eagle Creek is located in the middle of the Western Reserve, a northeastern quadrant of Ohio that was originally set aside for purchase by New England veterans of the Revolutionary War. The northern and southern boundaries of the Western Reserve correspond to the same boundaries as Connecticut, which originally claimed the area as part of its coast-to-coast colonial charter. Connecticut relinquished these claims as part of the compromise that made all westward expansion possible, but it stipulated that Connecticut veterans must have first chance at purchasing the land.
